Lake George is a small, round lake located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin in Mammoth Lakes, California. This attractive lake, fed by streams coming from nearby Crystal Lake and TJ Lake, sits at an elevation of 9,000 feet. Due to its elevation, in the spring, Lake George is one of the last lakes in the area to melt off ice.
Though located west of Lake Mary, the Lake George is often overlooked by visitors to the area. And, that’s what makes Lake George a great place for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and photography. Those who fish will find rainbow trout and brook trout. Most fish planted here are in the 10 to 12 inch range, but there are some larger fish.
Lake George is a no wake lake. Swimming is not allowed and neither are boat motors larger than six horsepower. The small Woods Lodge on the lake features a dock, a primitive boat ramp, and boat rentals.
Those looking to hike can hike up to Crystal Lake or TJ Lake. Though both trails are short, they rewarded hikers with beautiful views of the area. You can find both trailheads near the day use parking lot on the northern end of Lake George.
Located next to the lake is Lake George Campground. This first-come, first-serve campground has 15 campsites, many with views of the lake below.

From Highway 395, turn west on Highway 203 towards Mammoth Lakes. Continue on Highway 203, which turns into Lake Mary Road, for 7.8 miles to reach Around Lake Mary Road. Turn left on Around Lake Mary Road. Continue on Around Lake Mary Road for 0.3 miles to reach Lake George Road. Turn right on Lake George Road. Continue on Lake George Road for 0.3 miles to reach the lake.
